Demonstration "Classical Still Life Painting"
Location: Floral Park Art League 10/5/09 7:45p.m.
I will be demonstrating how to use a pre-mixed palette string to paint a small (8"x10") still life. My focus will be on covering the entire canvas in an hour and a half keeping the values clear, sharp and well placed. This is a good way to deal quickly with issues of color, shape and edge, which are really the heart and soul of observational painting. In this type of painting the emphasis is not on details, but the student is often quite surprised how litlle detail is needed to make a believable rendering if the colors, shapes, edges and values are right. The completed painting will be raffled off at the demo.

Demonstration: "Classical Still Life Painting"
Location: 44-21 Douglaston Pkwy., N.Y. one block from N.Blvd
Event Dates: 9/11/2009 -
I will be demonstrating the method that I use to block-in, mix color strings and paint a small still life in a single session. I'll be discussing the straight line drawing method used in the block-in, the wipeout (thin imprimatura underpainting), color mixing and finally how to apply the paint to quickly render light and how to model the paint to create form. I'll probably have an hour and a half to two hours to work so this won't be a tightly rendered painting but it is the way that I learned to paint and the way that I still paint when I want to paint quickly and cleanly without a fuss to make a bold statement. The demo painting will be raffled off. Open to National Art League.members or those who would like to pay membership fee (I believe it's 25.00) at the meeting. Demo starts at 8p.m. For further info call 718-224-3597 or email info@nationalartleague.org
